The Hoodoos of Bryce

Leaving early this morning, the Zion canyon said goodbye with stunning views. The highlight of the drive was 1.1 mile tunnel through Mt. Carmel, carved in the granite, and so low that traffic can only go one way so large vehicles (like ours) could pass.

We passed through Red Canyon National Park on the way into Bryce and found a camping spot in the park -- after driving around a few times and trying to figure out how the whole system works. Our real day at Bryce began as the shuttle dropped us off at Bryce Point, a magnificent vista offering stunning views of the entire canyon. From there, we hiked to Inspiration Point -- soaking in the amazing scenery with every bend of the trail. After a long day of hiking in the sun, we found our way back to camp, made dinner, and called it an early evening.

To sum up the day as Syd said, "I feel like I'm in a dream. It's so amazing up here!"

As always, check out our pictures from the day (which only hint at the true splendor of the scenery).

Tomorrow, we're aiming for sunrise back at Bryce Point then a ten hour drive into Colorado.
